Security and location of tests
The access codes for each test can be obtained by email. See the details in the box at the top of this page.
Please only give your pupils the details of how to access the test when they are about to do the test, to lessen
the possibility of cheating.
The address which pupils need to go to to enter the access code is
http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/meptests/
Results and feedback from secondary-phase tests
It was originally anticipated that after each test is completed, the pupil will be presented with their result and a
predicted grade for later qualifications based on various statistics developed by the CIMT. Several teachers
said that they would prefer to give out predicted grades themselves at an appropriate time. In this round of tests,
the result will be displayed to the pupils, and teachers will then be able to use a separate web page to analyse the
result obtained. Details of this web page will be provided with the web addresses for the tests.
Collection and storage of results
Everyone who takes the test will have their result stored in an on-line database at the CIMT. Copies of each
school's results will be made available to that school following an email request. We have not lost any data
in this way, but we would still strongly recommend that you take a note of each pupil's mark when they have
finished the test. It makes sense to take precautions just in case of a disaster!
Pupil preparation
Your pupils will probably not have taken a test on-line before. Even if they have, they will not have used
the new algebra editing facilities which are built into the Algebra tests (1, 2 and 3). It is important that any
pupils taking Algebra 1, 2 or 3 have viewed the information about the new algebra editing facilities at:
http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/interactive/editors/editors.html and
the page where they can test whether they can use the editors correctly at
http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/interactive/editors/edittest.html. They
can view these pages at any time but it might be worth looking at these in lesson time in case there are any problems.
It is also important to treat the on-line test like any other; the same time-limits and rules on calculator use must still be
applied.
Pupil information needed
Pupils will need to have the following information ready to fill in at the start of the test: Full name, school year,
date of birth, gender, school name (will be selected from a list), Maths class (max 8 characters)
and Maths teacher initials. It is important that they fill in all these details.
It would also be very useful if pupils could enter their MEP pupil code from previous years (if they have one).
System requirements
To use the on-line tests, your machines must meet the following requirements:
- Internet access
- Web browser must be Microsoft Internet Explorer 5/6, or Netscape Navigator 4.6x/4.7x (not version 6)
- Macromedia Flash Player 6 or higher must be installed for the browser you are using
- Javascript should be enabled in your web browser
- 'Requested' pop-up windows must be allowed - click here to see if this is the case.
You can check whether the on-line tests will work on your machine by trying the algebra editor test page which can be found at
http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/interactive/editors/edittest.html. If
the page functions correctly (including the "check" buttons), then you have everything installed.
Reporting problems
If you find any problems in the on-line tests, please contact us using the email link above, giving
precise details of which page the problem occurred on and exactly what happened.
Alternatives to on-line testing
It is still possible to carry out these tests in the normal paper-based way. If you need master copies
of the tests for photocopying, please contact Russell Geach at the Centre.
